Police Arrest Couple And 2 Others For Buying 5 Months Old Baby for N15,000

The Kano state police command have arrested 4 persons for paying N13,000 to buy a five-month-old baby boy.

The suspects were 32 year old Itohan Pius,of ECWA Eye Hospital Kano; a couple from Rivers State, 39 year old Sandra Bob-Manuel; 42 year old Charles Bob-Manuel;and one 30 year old Charles Akindoji, from Kaduna State.

All four suspects appeared before a magistrate’s court in Kano on Friday.

According to court documents, the suspects are standing trial on a two counts of “criminal conspiracy and buying or selling minor for immoral purpose, which contravene the provisions of sections 97 and 278 of the penal code.” They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Presenting the state’s case, police prosecutor, Yusuf Sale, told the court that the suspects committed the offence on October 10, in Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano after they approached one Fatima Ahmad, mother of the baby, with the indecent proposal to buy the child.

“The suspects paid N13,000 out of the negotiated N15,000 to buy the boy but Fatima later reported the matter to the police and we effected the arrest of the suspects,” he said.

Magistrate Aminu Fagge, who presided over the case, imposed N300,000 bail condition on each of the four suspects following their not guilty plea and adjourned the case to November 15, Punch reports..
