Nigerian 18-year-old stages kidnap to extort N500k from his grandfather
18-year-old Chisom Igbokwe has been arrested for faking his own abduction in order to extort N500,000 from his grandfather.
He has been apprehended by the operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Imo State Police Command after his plans fell through.
Parading Igbokwe alongside three of his accomplices and other kidnapping, armed robbery, cult and murder suspects, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, disclosed that the operatives of the command, following a tip-off apprehended the young man and his gang members.
Igbokwe, according to Ezike, was arrested alongside Solomon Chinonso, Chijioke Nnadi and Michael Nwaotu, who conspired with him to stage-manage the false kidnapping.
“On October 23, operatives of the command’s anti-kidnapping unit, acting on information, arrested the following suspects in connection with the fake kidnapping of Chisom Igbokwe on Spibat Road, Akwakuma in the Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.
“The suspects have made useful statements confessing that they conspired to fake the kidnapping in order to collect ransom from his grandfather.”
The CP disclosed that when the command realised that the abduction was faked, it had to strategically play along in order to nab the four young men.
Confessing to the crime, Igbokwe, who just finished his secondary school education, told newsmen that he did not know what came over him.
Of course, he has blamed the devil for his actions, expressing regret over what he had done.
